Tree Roots - April 21, 2011

I go to
sit on,
My favorite tree stump.
Its roots surging through spots in the dirt.
Sitting glumly in my backyard.
Remembering when it once was
a full tree, and I was but
a young child.
There's a story, in every thick root.
A distant memory in each
fibrous.
Like a sacred book written
with sap.
It holds my childhood, and my life.
As well as its own.
Tree roots.
