Santa Baby - December 30, 2010

“It was a white Christmas Eve much to the joy of all the people that lived in the small village SaintVille. Especially for the recently married couple Madison and Luis Blake, who were expecting their first child. Both had been born on a snowy winter day, and now their child would be born on Christmas Eve, while snow laden the hills. They had great plans for their child. They wanted him or her to feel the same joy the village people felt during this cold and bust time of year. For him or her to feel happiness and warmth by the cold little white flakes that lay around them. Why was winter so important to them you ask? Because this special village is where St. Nick came from himself. Born of a sweet couple who died a couple years ago. And every year a child was born around this time, and when Santa started his rounds for the year, he’d stop here first, pick that child up, and let them accompany him on this years toy run. Madison and Luis had been praying that their child could have that experience since both its parents had. They constantly spoke of the wonders they saw on that adventure. At around 9 that night, their daughter was born. Lucy Blake. And she would be the one to keep dear old Santa company this year. He appeared like a dream at midnight. His glowing face seemed young and old at the same time. Tired but wide awake. His eyes twinkled with delight at being home and about to embark on his annual trip to make every good little kids happy. Yes, he was a sight of pure happiness and bliss. The snow swirled around his big red figure. He took the baby from her mothers arms and sprinkled some golden dust over her. Quickly she became a child of about 5. The parents were awestruck buy her beauty but at the same time mourned for the loss of five years they’d have with her. But this way she’d remember the trip. They went through the same process when they were younger. Losing 5 years of their lives. But in this village it was a blessing. And they were happy to help. The night was cool and Lucy was full of wonder as she stared over the sleighs edge at the world. She was happy that this is how she’d be brought into the world. But while she was away, her parents drove to the nearby store, only to lose control on the icy roads. While she was gone, without knowing, on Christmas, her parents had perished. Santa automatically knew of the tragedy and thought over what to do the entire trip. He came to the idea of keeping her as his and Mrs. Claus’. Yes, she would be a Santa Baby. He kept her name Lucy and decided never to return to his home village and only take her on his rounds. Yes, that worked well for the years. Until one day when Lucy realized her true story and demanded that next year, they go to her hometown and she would stay for a while. But then they arrived at what Santa knew would be there; sadness. Blackness. No more pretty Christmas decorations, no more snow, no more winter babies. The whole village was sad. Lucy didn't like this and decided to stay and return to the city of the former glory she vaguely recalled. The next winter, it was as it had been. All thanks to the last Santa baby. But when the Christ,as season reached them, Lucy and her new husband Ralph gave birth to a healthy baby boy. She dressed him a blue jumper with snow flakes all over it. And for his feet, light blue baby boots with snowmen on them. He was the perfect winter baby. The perfect future Santa baby. That year Santa returned and started back up his old tradition. With his first new child being Lucy’s son, Dmitri. But when Santa saw how winter perfect he already was, he kept him young and just gave him an amazing memory. The next morning after that Christmas, Santa returned Dmitri happily and thanked Lucy for everything she’d done. Yes, she was the perfect Santa baby, and has the years passed, her and Santa both thought of the years they spent together. Or at least that’s the story I’m telling” Rose finished the tale perfectly to the kindergarten class. “Miss Rose, is that story true?” asked one of her students. “I don’t know, you’ll have to ask him” she said winking at her husband Dmitri. He smiled widely. “Who are you?” asked another student. “I’m the Santa Baby, I’m Dmitri” he said proudly. All the kids went home that day with their own opinions of the story. But only the ones who truly believed ever really found out the truth. For that year, on Christmas, all the believers received something that wasn’t on any of their lists. Light blue boots with snowmen on them.

MERRY CHRISTMAS!!
