Not just smelly shoes - March 24, 2011

I met a man who sold his soul for just a pair on Nikes,
and the shoe salesman that dun it was overcome by his love-of shoes
he thought nobody but he understood shoe beauty
so he hid the man's soul in those shoes
and warned him never to take them off
until he died
but if he did he'd go to Hell.
so he fit the shoes in his life happily:
no dancing, they shouldn't be overworn
no walking too much, no marathons
he washed with them out of the tub
forgot about his own feet,
tried not to look, as they detiriorated, at all the shoe stores
As he told me this they were still on his feet: wrapped plastic crumbs almost gone.
So I asked: him if he had the chance would he take it all back?
In a minute- the old man said.
No one should love something more than a soul, it gets in the way
