Christmas Angels Singing - December 20, 2010

The organist played "Silent Night" as prelude. I sat on an old wooden pew among the congregation. The church building was a little more crowded that day, because along with us every week church-goers, were the people that only came the Sunday before Christmas.

The choir was sitting up in the stands anxious to sing the songs they had been practicing for the last few months. I was a little anxious too, because that morning I had decided something. I decided I wanted to hear angels sing. I had my mind set, that if I was super spiritual with an open focused mind, that when the choir sang I would be able to hear angels singing with them.

When it came time for the choir to sing, I listened intently. I heard the beautiful melody, but I tried to hear even more than that. By the end of the first song, I was slightly discouraged. I had a great feeling in my heart from the wonderful Christmas music, but had heard not one angel's voice. Each song after that I tried to envision angels, but had no luck. During the second to last song I had given up. I realized that human ears just weren't meant to hear the voice of angels.

During the last song "Away in a Manger" I felt my heart burning inside of me. It was so harmonious and pure. Then as I looked into the eyes of each singing choir member, I finally understood: I had been listening to angels all along.
