A True Friend - November 7, 2010

I looked at Mellina. She had everything I wish I had. Good looks, a great personality, and all the coolest clothes. I tried to not be so jelous of all those things, but it was hard not to have the slightest thought of jelousy in the back of my mind when I would hang out with her. She liked me… but not as much as her other friend Gracie. She used to be my best friend until Gracie moved here. Now Im just a third wheel. It seems like all my other friends are best friends with each other: Carrie and Britney, Alicia and Fabi, and Mellina and Gracie. When ever we all had a party I was invited but everyone would get into their pairs and I would sit there as they told secrets about there crushes to each other. I always felt alone.

Hey, Kristi,” Fabi said over the phone, “Do you want to come over tonight? Im inviting some friends over to go swimming in my backyard.”

That would be great!” I said. “What time?”

Just come over at seven. Okay?”

Okay. Bye.”

See ya there.” Beep.

I was excited. Fabi had such an awesome pool. It had a deep end that went was ten feet deep!

That night I rode my bike to Fabis house. Alicia, Carrie, Mellina, and Gracie were all already there. Everyone was in the pool except Carrie.

Why arent you in the pool, Carrie?” I asked.

I dont want to get in without Britney. I feel like I would be betraying her,” she replied dramatically.

Want me to wait with you?” I asked.

That would be great,” she said back.

So, what have you been up to lately?” I asked

Oh, nothing. The first few weeks of summer seem like theyve just been going to volley ball practice and watching TV.”

Havent you been hanging out with Britney?” I questioned.

Well ya. Until she went on a huge road trip with her dad for the last two weeks,” Carrie grumbled, “She got back yesterday night. She better say sorry for being gone longer then she first said. She said she would be gone for a week. Shes such a liar sometiems.”

I laughed in my head at how she critizied her friend even though nothing could come between them.

BRITNEY!!!” Carrie jumped out of her chair and ran over to her. They both started talking like crazy. They embraced and then both jumped into the pool. I sat there. They both paid no mind to me.

I wasnt going to go in until someone noticed me and asked me to go in with them. It never happened and after ten minutes of sitting there I slithered into the pool and swam in little circles while all the best friends continued to talk. Soon the little get together ended.

Thanks for coming!” Fabi shouted, as I started to ride my bike away.

Thanks for inviting me!” I shouted back, even though I just wished I stayed home.

The next few weeks were the same. I felt like I had no real friends. I felt so desprete for friendship and no one would call and invite me over. What was wrong with me? Nothing, I guess, just that fact that all my friends had a B.F.F. they treasured much more than me.

Mom, how come I dont have any real friends?” I asked desperately. She had to know just how desperate I was, because I didnt come to her for advice usually.

You have plenty of friends, dear,” she said in her sweetest voice.

Not best friends. No one ever invites me over,” I sulked.

Well, do you ever invite anyone over?” she asked.

Well, no-”

Why would any of your friends want to invite you over if you never even call them to come over?” She said. I tried to reply but she just kept going, “Why dont you start inviting some people you want to know better to our house and maybe… just maybe youll find a true friend.”
